Outreach
Faith defines who we are as a people of God. Faith calls us into relationship with God and with each other. Faith flows over, calling us to share all that we have from God for the sake of our world, the object of our mission and ministries.
Sharing our Resources with Others
Weekly offerings are received to support the ministry of Good Shepherd as well as local and global ministries. We seek to follow the biblical understanding of stewardship that teaches giving proportionately and generously out of a spirit of gratitude. In addition, Good Shepherd promotes several programs to enable members to participate in helping others in more concrete ways:
- Blood Drive
- Church World Services 'Mother's Day Blanket Gift card' program
- CROP walk
- Hunger Appeal
- People to People food collection
- People to People 'adopt-a-family' at Christmas
- Support for a missionary working in agricultural development in Tanzania
- Benevolence support of church-wide Lutheran mission work
- Benevolence support of Lutheran World Federation service ministries
- Benevolence support of our sister congregation in the South Bronx
- Benevolence support for social service ministries in the wider New York Metropolitan area (hospitals, adoption services, foster care, adult care facilities, counseling centers, Seafarers, people at risk)
- Other programs as needs develop (e.g. response to natural disasters)
For those who wish to make contributions for specific ministries, information is available through the church office.
Thrivent's 'Simply Giving' weekly offering plan is also available at www.Thrivent.com
